Carol R. Butler is President of The Butler Company, which provides consulting and training to Virginia title agents, attorneys and realtors. With 35 years experience in teaching, underwriting, closing, title examining and training, The Butler Company facilitates underwriting, processing, CE, MCLE, pre-licensing and courthouse training, office relocation, expansion and organization, temporary office management and leadership coaching.
Butler has served as a certified instructor for the Virginia State Bar, State Corporation Commission-Bureau of Insurance, Virginia Board of Realtors, National Paralegal Association and the National Business Institute.
A native of Tidewater, Butler worked as a legal assistant in Virginia law firms. Her title examination training began 1974 in Charlottesville. Prior to opening The Butler Company in 2001, she was co-owner of Victoria Title & Escrow Co. and the Virginia Beach branch manager for Southern Title Insurance Corp.
Most recently, Butler was co-owner of Breen Title & Settlement, Inc. (sold to Gateway Bank of NC in ‘07) and a managing member of Norfolk Title, LC and Lake James Title, LLC.
She has built a statewide network of professionals who work with her to assist in title examinations, closings, office relocation and expansion services.
Butler has been a member of The Virginia Land Title Association (VLTA) since 2001 and chaired the Education Committee 2004-2005. Butler was awarded VLTA’s first Distinguished Service Award in 2005 and “Title Idol” in 2007.
Butler is very active with The American Diabetes Association. A member of the southeast Virginia Board since 2000, she recently served as Chair. On a national committee, she assists ADA Boards in five states. Butler enjoys working programs and events and is currently Chair of a new ADA committee in Virginia – major gifts.
Formerly a professional musician, Butler continues to perform at charity benefits and festivals with CHAMPAGNE, an all-girl band. Residing in the Ghent area of Norfolk, she enjoys family & friends, music, travel, fitness and teaching.
