Carol R. Butler is President of The Butler Company, which provides consulting and training to Virginia real estate professionals. With 37 years experience in teaching, underwriting, closing, title examining and training, The Butler Company facilitates underwriting, processing, continuing education, pre-licensing and courthouse training, office relocation, expansion and organization and leadership coaching.
Butler has served as a certified instructor for the Virginia State Bar, State Corporation Commission-Bureau of Insurance, Virginia Board of Realtors, National Paralegal Association and the National Business Institute.
Butler's continuing education classes are approved by the Virginia Board of Realtors. The Butler Company offers CE seminars “in-house” at Virginia real estate companies, and, in 2009, taught monthly classes at Alpha College of Real Estate in Newport News. Butler held a salesperson license from 1985 to 1993, working in Gloucester, VA.
A native of Tidewater, Butler entered the real estate industry in 1971 as a legal assistant in Virginia law firms. Her title examination training began in 1974 in Charlottesville. Prior to opening The Butler Company in 2001, she was co-owner of Victoria Title & Escrow Co. (sold to Southern Title Insurance Corp.) and Virginia Beach branch manager of Southern Title Insurance Corp., and Tidewater Agency Manager/Business Development for Southern Title February - August 2011.
Butler has been a member of The Virginia Land Title Association since 2001; served on the Education Committee (former Chair), Events Committee and currently serves on the Membership Committee; awarded VLTA’s first Distinguished Service Award in 2005; won “Title Idol” at VLTA's 2007 convention. Butler currently serves on the Events Committee.
Butler was co-owner of Breen Title & Settlement, Inc. (sold to Gateway Bank in ‘07) and managing member of Norfolk Title, LC and Lake James Title, LLC.
Butler is active with The American Diabetes Association. A member of the southeast Virginia Board since 2000, she now serves as Honorary Member of the Board. She served as Chair locally, and two terms on a national ADA committee. Butler enjoys working programs and all events.
Formerly a professional musician, currently Butler is a member of CHAMPAGNE, an all-girl band. Residing in the Ghent area of Norfolk, she enjoys music, travel, fitness, teaching, friends & family.
